The zodiac means "little animals" though only seven of the signs contain a conventional animal. Three have human animals; one a mythical animal and one no life form at all.
Each sign has a GENDER representing the mood of those born under its influence. Those that are female have a nurturing, passive nature; those that are male are presumably relatively aggressive and left-brained.
Each sign possess an ELEMENT. In the formative years of the Zodiac's evolution, only four elements were known, namely, Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. These, of course, have little to do with the elements of the Periodic Table of modern times.
The four CARDINAL signs contain a compass rose in their design. These were originally introduced by the Egyptian pharaoh Rameses II 1300-1236 BC (the Pharaoh in Genesis) as the cardinal points of the Celestial Sphere used to engineer the temple of Amon at Karnak.
